XP ORX Review Review

The XP ORX is a lightweight, wireless metal detector from French manufacturer XP. Built around high-frequency VLF technology (up to 58.8 kHz), it excels at finding small gold, hammered coins, and jewellery. It pairs wirelessly with XP’s WS4 or WS5 headphones and weighs just 2.4 lbs – a firm favourite with UK detectorists.

Is This Detector Right For You?

🏖 At the Beach
The ORX can handle wet sand but lacks a dedicated beach programme. Using a DD coil and manual ground balance helps considerably on mineralised salt beaches.
🪙 Chasing Gold
Excellent. The 58.8 kHz frequency makes it one of the best VLF detectors for small gold nuggets and fine jewellery at mid-range prices.
🌱 Just Starting Out
Achievable for a keen beginner but the wireless remote and frequency options may overwhelm first-timers. Better suited to those who’ve used a basic detector before.
🪙 Coin Shooting
Outstanding on hammered silver and small copper coins. A popular choice for UK fieldwalking and pasture detecting.
🏹 Relic Hunting
Good all-around relic hunter. The high frequency picks up small ferrous details that lower-frequency detectors miss.
